My long-time friend wanted to take me out to lunch. She had Tub Tim Thai in mind for our lunch date. She highly recommended this restaurant in downtown Skokie. Now I have to be honest. I have eaten at several different Thai restaurants and never thought the food was all that great. So my expectations were not that high when we arrived at Tum Tim Thai. The inside of the restaurant is a pleasant place not too highly decorated, but quiet since there were about five or six tables with other diners. My friend ordered an appetizer, Meant Kim, which consisted of fresh Chapoo leaves topped with roasted coconut, sun-dried shrimp, bean sprouts, ground peanuts, diced ginger, shallots, lime and peanuts along with a side of hot Thai sauce and the regular sauce. When I saw that it had coconuts, I was worried. I really do not like coconut. However once I applied the regular sauce I absolutely loved the flavors. Excellent appetizer. Then my friend ordered what she wanted and I am sorry, but I can not remember what she ordered but I guess it was a dish she usually orders. I ordered the Stir-Fried Vegetables which included red rice, mushrooms, asparagus, pea pods, carrots, onions and green beans. I added sliced pork and it came with a side of the regular sauce and a wonderful peanut sauce. I absolutely loved this dish. I thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful flavors. I would say that Tum Tim Thai is a wonderful place to come and enjoy a wonderful meal, plus the waitress/hostess Abby was wonderful to have work with us and serve us. Her mother Chantra is the cook. Just the best Thai food I have ever had. I highly recommend Tum Tim Thai. This restaurant is located in downtown Skokie at 4927 Oaken Street.

Solid, tastes home-cooked dishes! The Tom yum soup was served first and the shrimp was cooked perfectly and hubby liked that it was piping hot. It was a little on the sweet side but the other flavors were comforting and hit the spot. We ordered the dishes medium spicy and we made a note that we will order them full spice next time. The pad Thai was good but, again, a tad too sweet for our taste buds. We also ordered Rama (broccoli) with beef enveloped in a satiny, glorious peanut sauce! This was a winner! The Thai fried rice with chicken tasted like the ones in Bangkok so also a winner! We asked for nam pla prik (fish sauce with minced Thai bird chilies) and it remedied the lack of heat and gave the dishes even more umami flavor. The place is very family-friendly and clean. We used to bring the kids here but we have not dropped by in a while. It's great to know that they are still open and serving good Thai cooking!
